While social distancing, hand washing and testing are all so very important to our health these days, let us not forget about the power of our plates! Three or more times a day we have the opportunity to strengthen our immune system while simultaneously protecting our bodies from the leading killers in our country like heart disease and cancer. So why isn’t the media talking about improving our eating habits at this time? I am really not sure!
Some great immune boosting foods include mushrooms, greens and berries. Next time you gear up with mask and gloves to venture out on the grocery store (Who would have thought!?), you may wish to add these highly beneficial foods to your list. While no food will work miracles or protect us completely from viruses, the evidence-based benefits of eating a whole-food plant-based diet are plentiful (Though toilet paper may not be!).
