Canada has revised their Dietary Guidelines to promote a more whole foods plant-based regimen for their population.  Here are the basics of the new guidelines:

1)      Make it a habit to eat a variety of healthy foods each day.

2)      Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits, whole grain foods and protein foods.

3)      Choose protein foods that come from plants more often.

4)      Choose foods with healthy fats instead of saturated fat.

5)      Limit highly processed foods. If you choose these foods, eat them less often and in small amounts.

6)      Prepare meals and snacks using ingredients that have little to no added sodium, sugars or saturated fat.

7)      Choose healthier menu options when eating out.

8)      Make water your drink of choice; replace sugary drinks with water.

9)      Use food labels.

10)   Be aware that food marketing can influence your choices.
